About Precursor Ventures: Precursor Ventures is an early-stage venture capital firm based in San Francisco, CA. We focus on investing at the pre-seed and seed stage, and we make 30 to 50 new investments every year. We are a generalist fund that invests across the software and hardware ecosystem. Precursor Ventures currently has $200 million under management and is one of the most active investors in the early-stage venture capital ecosystem.

Position Overview: We are seeking a motivated and intellectually curious graduate student for a 12-week internship. The graduate intern will work alongside the four-person investment team and participate in many of the firm’s core activities. This opportunity is designed to provide hands-on experience in venture capital, with a focus on reviewing cold submissions, participating in startup pitch meetings, and developing an investment thesis.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Reviewing Cold Submissions: Analyze and evaluate cold submissions that come through our website and identify the most promising ones for consideration.
  2. Participating in Pitch Meetings: Join our investment team in new startup pitch meetings, contributing insights and engaging in discussions.
  3. Capstone Project: Present a final capstone project on an investment thesis, demonstrating strong writing and communication skills.
  4. Collaboration and Learning: Work closely with our team of experienced investors, absorbing knowledge and contributing positively to the team dynamic.
  5. Portfolio Data Management: Maintain important portfolio data across various platforms including Airtable and Affinity.

Time Commitment: 20 hours per week, designed to work around the candidate's academic schedule. Ideally, the candidate can join for 2 weekly team meetings on Tuesday mornings and Friday afternoons.
